Northampton Town v Rotherham United, 24th Feb 2007 PDF Print E-mail

Why do we bother? We’re dreadful and getting worse, but still I felt the need to go down to Northampton to see us again.

Me, Monkey, Billy and Gav were to go and travel arrangements were made with collect points and times agreed. However a 9:30am phone call from Billy claiming that he was to hung over to travel meant that just the three of us were to go.

We made excellent time down the motorway and arrived at the retail park thingy that surrounds the Sixfields stadium just after 12:00. We quickly found a pub and headed in to check whether they had SKY and would therefore be showing the Fulham v Man Utd game. We had no need to worry the place must have had 12 screens & TV’s. We got our selves a pint and found a decent spot sharing a table with a couple of NTFC fans. We spent the next two and a half hours, drinking, playing the bandit and watching the game whilst we discussed the merits of our respective teams with the Northampton fans. They claimed that we’d win as they couldn’t score and we told them not to worry, they’d score today.

At 2:45 we headed down to the stadium, via a fast food fan. One massive hot dog later and we were in the ground and settled into fairly decent seats amongst a decent away support. I quite like the Sixfield’s stadium, I don’t know why? it’s nothing special or unusual.

There were a couple of changes to the Millers line up after the Huddersfield match. Theo Streete and that bloke from Watford (I’m not even going to try and spell his name, I can’t even pronounce it!!) come in to the side. I’ve not seen either of these two before, maybe they’re good, maybe they’ll change our fortunes, maybe they’ll show a little more interest than the players they’ve replaced.

NO…..They’re both crap.

Several minutes into the game Cutler (our keeper) comes to the edge of the area and kneels down to collect a long through ball. Except it doesn’t get to him, their striker pokes it round him and taps it into the empty net. Their fans sing

That’s why you’re going down!

That’s why you’re going down!

And you know what, they’re absolutely right.

Before half time they score another two. 3-0 at half time and it’s back to the days if Danny Begara. Under his management we were 3-0 down at half time in every away match and relegated in February. We look just as bad now. There’s no fight, no passion, no skill and worst of all they look as though they don’t care.

As the teams came out for the second half Cutler running towards the goal in front of us apologised 3 times to the fans as he got closer and closer. I’ve never seen that before and I’m still not sure what to make of it. Do you knock him for being crap or do you respect that fact that he knows he made a mistake and is big enough to apologise for it?

Nothing happened in the second half. They settled for what they had and we had no idea how to play.

 NEIL CUTLER – Usual crap.

THEO STREETE – New crap

SHARPS – Gets worse every game

CHRIS FLEMING – You’d expect him to be better than he is

STEVEN BROGAN – Needs to be taken away of the team before he’s ruined for life

RICHIE PARTRIDGE – Should be good, isn’t, I hate him

WATFORD BLOKE – No the pace, no creativity at all

JUSTINE COCHRANE – Looks lost without somebody decent along side him.

NEIL WOODS- The only one who appears to be trying

DELROY FACEY – Lazy, over weight

CHRIS O’GRADY – We’d be better off playing Paul O’Grady

I can’t wait for the next game…………..
